IWG-UV1 successfully passes RTCA/DO-160G test

International Water-Guard (IWG) is pleased to announce that its latest water treatment unit – the IWG-UV1 – has successfully completed RTCA/DO-160G testing. This is an exceptional accomplishment for IWG because it validates that the IWG-UV1 design complies with airworthiness standards. In addition, the IWG-UV1 unit is in the process of being certified as part of an FAA Project for a Boeing 787 VVIP Interior Completion.

“The IWG-UV1 is in a class of its own, and ensures that every passenger on board has safe, clean potable water,” says David Pohl, Director of Engineering.

Completing an RTCA/DO-160G test is no easy feat. The IWG-UV1 was assessed for nearly two weeks at certified testing labs and underwent 16 rigorous RTCA/DO-160G tests from a variety of categories, some of which included vibration, humidity, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crash safety. The result? A successful IWG water treatment unit with no noted faults, anomalies, or test failures.

It’s no question that the IWG-UV1 is durable and reliable – but it’s list of features doesn’t stop there.

“The IWG-UV1 requires minimum maintenance,” says Jaewook Jeong, Mechanical Designer, who managed the development of the IWG-UV1 unit.  “It’s smart and simple – all you need to do is supply power. It also communicates to the cabin management system by using RS 485 data communication.”

IWG is excited to introduce the IWG-UV1 as an innovative product to the business aviation market. For over 30 years, IWG has been the leading supplier of potable water treatment units, and their product offering also includes tankless water heaters, aircraft water pumps, and a compact water module. IWG Attends NBAA 2014: The Recap

Once a year 25,000 people meet from all around the world for one purpose – to find out the latest and greatest in business aviation. Known as the National Business Aviation Conference, this tradeshow was held in sunny Orlando Florida. The weather was nice and warm, however, IWG was heating up the conference our own way with our latest product – the new T-Series Tankless Water Heater.

The introduction of the T-Series heater at NBAA was a success and its features and benefits were exhibited to several completion centers – specifically the launch customer of the T-Series , Greenpoint Technologies, who is currently working on a  B787 VIP completion.

“The response our customers are giving us on our new T-Series water heater is very positive,” said Giles Lapierre, Director of Sales and Marketing. “This is the prime place for them to see, hold, and learn about the T-Series’ capabilities for future and existing aircraft.”

Another product IWG also exhibited for the first time at NBAA was the IWG-UV1 water treatment unit, which is the newest water treatment unit to IWG’s product family; it is a dual action unit that filters and uses ultraviolet technology and state of the art design to treat on-board water in a vertical position.

“Our goal was to promote this new product to all of our customers since it’s the smartest and lightest water purification unit on the market,” says Lapierre.

Founded in 1947 and based in Washington, DC, the NBAA is the leading organization for companies that rely on general aviation aircraft to help make their businesses more efficient, productive and successful. The Association represents more than 10,000 companies and provides more than 100 products and services to the business aviation community, including the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, the world’s largest civil aviation trade show. How UV light keeps water clean

We’re exposed to ultraviolet light every day. Although it is invisible to the human eye, it’s part of the spectrum that makes up sunlight.”

More than a century ago, scientists discovered that ultraviolet light can render bacteria and viruses harmless to humans. Further research found that a particular range of ultraviolet intensity is the most effective. The development of electronic lamps generating that intensity range led to the widespread use of ultraviolet light to disinfect drinking water.

Unlike chemical treatment, ultraviolet light does not affect the water itself, only the micro-organisms growing in it, so ultraviolet light is found in water treatment plants the world over.

It can also be found on hundreds of aircraft equipped with International Water-Guard’s flight-certified potable water treatment units. Effectively miniature water treatment plants in the sky, our units overwhelm potentially harmful organisms with levels of ultraviolet light beyond the highest drinking water treatment standards.
